REFRACTIVE SURGERY
Corrective surgery for vision defects may be of two kinds: there are operations carried out on the corneal surface using excimer laser, ultraviolet light, microwave, and CK radio wave therapy, and those that involve inserting or replacing an intraocular lens.

ALL-ROUND SUPPORT FOR EVERY EYE PROBLEM
Clinical ophthalmology is a special branch of ophthalmology which focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and which supports the eye-surgery side of SERI’s activities, where the focus is on resolving vision defects of all kinds. The amount of research and specialisation in each of these two branches is the same, which means that the Switzerland Eye Research Institute may be referred to not only for eye problems caused by visual defects (such as, for example, myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism, or presbyopia) but also for eye diseases, which nonetheless result in impaired vision. Such is the case of glaucomasenile macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. In addition to what is known as medical retina, our centre also offers paediatric ophthalmology screening for the early detection of vision defects and diseases in children, and monitoring of infant vision development.

FEMTOLASIK LUX®

FEMTOLASIK LUX® has evolved out of the technique, the most exciting procedure in refractive surgery.

Pinelli Presby Profile

The Pinelli Presby Profile technique is in evpatery respect an exciting new anti-ageing treatment which can turn the clocks back a long way.

ASA LASIK LUX®

Like LASIK LUX®, Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA) is a technique that uses excimer laser to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

Cross linking

Dr Pinelli has pioneered an important new variation of the technique known as Osmotic Transepithelial Cross-Linking.

RETINAL DISEASES

Retinal disease is known as retinopathy and presents different symptoms according to where the retina is affected.

INTRAVITREAL INJECTIONS

Intravitreal injections take just a few minutes and require neither anaesthetic nor admission to hospital.

PAEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY SERVICE

SERI Lugano has a dedicated Paediatric Ophthalmology Service to assess visual capacity and any related disorders in children.

AMBLYOPIA

Commonly known as “lazy eye”, it is a condition in which one or both eyes have reduced visual function, or even none at all.

REFRACTIVE LENSECTOMY FOR CATARACTS

Lensectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the natural crystalline lens and implant an artificial one that is foldable, transparent, and made of biocompatible materials.

PHAKIC INTRAOCULAR LENS

A phakic IOL is an intraocular lens implanted in the eye without removing the crystalline lens. In fact, it is added to the existing natural lens that governs focusing.
